Priory Park
Pre-school was opened in January 1991 as a community pre-school.
The Pre school is run by a voluntary parent support group, but the
day to day running of the group is the responsibility of the supervisor,
Mrs Julia Coates.
Mrs Coates
is helped by 6 pre school assistants - 4 are trained to level 3
in child care and education, 2 are trained to level 2. Staff regularly
attend training throughout the year.
The aim of
the pre school is to "promote underpinning knowledge for all future
learning by supporting, fostering, promoting and developing children
in the six areas of the Early Learning Goals for the Foundation
Stage as set by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA)"
Morning sessions
start at 9.15am and finish at 11.45am, the afternoon sessions start
at 12.15pm and finish at 2.45pm.
A typical
day at the pre school involves....
- Registration
- Free Play (Sand/Water, Paint,
Role Play, Jigsaws, Puzzles, dough, pencil skills
- Construction Time
- Healthy Snack
- Tidy Up
- Quiet Time
- Outside/Indoor play (Weather
permitting)
- Story
- Songs
Each session
is planned and structured so that the Early Learning Goals for the
Foundation stage of child development are provided for. The staff
prepare long-term plans for each academic year and review them at
Easter. There is also a Family Link system in place where every
member of staff is responsible for a certain amount of children.
The Family Link staff member observes and keeps records of each
child, these records can then be viewed by the parents.
